Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

  1. What is the difference between EIM and EIP?

    • EIM focuses on the Montessori approach to early intervention, emphasizing hands-on learning, independence, and natural development through structured environments and materials.

    • EIP (ABA) uses Applied Behavior Analysis principles to teach developmental skills, focusing on behavior management, structured teaching, and individualized goals.

  2. What is the age range for these programs?

    • EIM: Typically suitable for children of developmental age from 18 months to 6 years.

    • EIP: Designed for 18 months and beyond but specifically for children who need focused support in developmental areas like communication, behavior, or motor skills.

  3. Can my child attend both programs?
Yes, if appropriate for your child’s needs, they can participate in both programs. EIM focuses on general development, while EIP provides targeted support for specific challenges.

Program Structure

  1. What are the class sizes for EIM?
The EIM program typically has a small group setting, with one teacher overseeing 2–3 children to maintain individualized attention.

  2. Is EIP one-on-one or in a group setting?
EIP sessions are generally conducted one-on-one to ensure personalized intervention and focus.

  3. How are goals set in these programs?

    • EIM: Goals align with Montessori developmental milestones and the child’s natural progression.

    • EIP: Goals are set based on detailed assessments, focusing on areas like communication, behavior, and motor skills.

  4. Do both programs include parent involvement?
Yes. Both programs encourage parent participation to reinforce learning at home and ensure consistency in strategies.

Skills Targeted

  1. What skills does EIM focus on?

    • Practical life skills (independence, self-care)

    • Sensorial development (fine motor and sensory skills)

    • Language and communication

    • Early math and academic readiness

  2. What skills does EIP focus on?

    • Communication and speech (expressive and receptive language)

    • Social skills and interaction

    • Behavior regulation

    • Fine and gross motor skills

    • Self-help skills

Therapies and Interventions

  1. Does EIP include Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy?
EIP covers aspects of speech and motor development under its umbrella. However, if a child has significant delays, additional specialized Speech Therapy or OT might be recommended.

    • EIP (Early Intervention Program) under the ABA framework encompasses a wide range of developmental skills. This includes speech and communication, motor skills, social interaction, self-help, and behavioral management. Through individualized ABA strategies, aspects of speech and motor skills are addressed as part of the child’s overall development plan.

    • However, it’s important to note that:

      • If the child's speech or motor delays are more pronounced or require specialized support (e.g., for articulation disorders, oral muscle weaknesses, sensory integration difficulties, etc.), dedicated Speech Therapy or Occupational Therapy sessions may be recommended alongside the EIP to ensure the best outcome.

      • EIP provides a holistic developmental framework, but it doesn’t replace the in-depth, targeted approaches of licensed Speech Therapists or Occupational Therapists when those are necessary.

    • For children with additional or more complex needs, collaboration between EIP and specialists like speech therapists and OTs can create a more comprehensive and effective intervention plan.

Behavior Management

  1. How are challenging behaviors addressed in these programs?

    • EIM: Uses Montessori principles to redirect behavior positively and encourage independence.

    • EIP: Incorporates ABA strategies to manage and reduce challenging behaviors through reinforcement, behavior plans, and skill-building.

  2. What happens if my child struggles during a session?
Teachers and therapists adapt the session in real time, breaking down tasks, incorporating engaging activities, and providing the necessary support.

Logistics

  1. What are the session durations?

    • EIM: 4-hour morning sessions from 8:30am to 12:30pm.

    • EIP: 3-hour 1:1 sessions from 2pm to 5pm. Morning sessions please inquire within.

Enrollment and Recommendations

  1. How do I know which program is right for my child?
An initial assessment will help determine the best program based on your child’s developmental needs and goals.

  2. Can my child participate in both EIM and EIP?
Yes. If your child progresses in one program and needs additional support in another area, they can participate in both.

  3. What qualifications do teachers have?

  • All EIM and EIP Teachers are trained in Montessori education and child development, ABA methodologies and have experience in early intervention.
